All three Triangle women's basketball programs have been to the Women's Final Four: Duke four times, UNC three, and NC State once. The Tar Heels have the lone national championship, in 1994. North Carolina has the top-rated freshmen class in the country, but they will have to begin their college careers without Hall of Fame coach Sylvia Hatchell on the sidelines, as she battles leukemia.
