RJ Davis, Aranza Vazquez take top honors at Rammys

UNC honored the best athletes and performances of the last year at the annual Rammys on Monday night. The top male and female athletes were no surprise, as All-American guard R.J. UNC third in national Directors’ Cup standings after winter sports

North Carolina is third in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings after winter sports. Future ACC member Stanford is No. 1 with 977 points, followed by Texas at 746.5 and the Tar Heels at 733.5. UNC led the standings by 1.5-points over Stanford after fall sports, but the Cardinal earned 606 points from winter sports compared to 361 for the Tar Heels. (Tar Heel Tribune)

USA field hockey denies Erin Matson opportunity to play in 2024 Olympics

With the 2024 Paris Olympics around the corner, it would seem like Erin Matson would be preparing for the games with the rest of Team USA — a team she has been part of since the age of 17. Erin Matson, the head coach of the reigning national champion North Carolina field hockey team and a four-time national champion as a player, has been denied the opportunity to try out for the U.S. Olympic team at its trials in Charlotte on Monday. After Team USA clinched a spot in the 2024 Paris Games, Erin Matson, whose Tar Heels won the NCAA Field Hockey title last November in her first season at the helm, wanted to make a push for a tryout spot with the Olympic team. Chapel Hill middle school athlete recovers from brain injury with help of UNC Football

Twelve-year-old Lee Fitch looks right at home competing for his Middle School basketball team in Chapel Hill. It’s hard to imagine that less than three years ago, Lee nearly died.
