225 years of Tar Heels: Anne Cates

After she graduated from UNC in 1953, Anne Cates worked in real estate and raised her children with her husband. When her children were grown, she knew she wanted to come back to her alma mater. In 1993, she was appointed to Carolina’s Board of Trustees, and in 1999, she became the first woman to chair the board in the University’s more than 200-year history. (UNC.edu)
