Bob McAdoo is still a scout with the Miami Heat, so he is precluded by NBA rules from discussing Carmelo Anthony or his situation. But McAdoo did tell me, nearly 40 years since he joined the Lakers in 1981, that he had had no advance warning that he would not be a starter in L.A. — and that his three-plus seasons with the Lakers’ second unit were harder than he had ever let on.
