2018 was defined by significant turnover with the closing of several Franklin Street mainstays and the loss of Chapel Hill legend Mildred “Mama Dip” Council. Council, owner of Mama Dip’s Kitchen died on May 20 at the age of 89. Several other prominent Chapel Hill restaurants also saw major changes in 2018. Spanky’s closed in March after more than 40 years in business.
