Once defined almost entirely by his otherworldly athleticism, Vince Carter is now one of the NBA’s premier player-coaches. Carter’s stint with the Dallas Mavericks created the blueprint for the player he’s become today. It’s where he first transitioned to a bench role — a Texas-sized pill to swallow for someone who’d ascended to his level of stardom — and he thrived there.
