A "crazy" ending to his recruitment allowed Sam Howell to stay close to home

Duke Howell knew what was happening, even if his son didn’t yet realize it. It wasn’t long after Miami coach Mark Richt had pitched Sam Howell, then a senior at Sun Valley High School, that UNC football coach Mack Brown arrived to sell him on helping lead his rebuilding efforts in Chapel Hill. Only one problem: Howell was committed to Florida State. (Heels Maven)
