Appalachian State quarterback Zac Thomas's back-breaking 12-yard run on third down gave the Mountaineers a fresh set of downs, essentially securing the win. For UNC's defense, that play was a microcosm of the game. "(Thomas') legs made a play," UNC safety Myles Dorn said. Defensive consistency was a big postgame talking point for UNC defenders.
