Around this time last year, shortly after he underwent season-ending surgery on his right wrist, Chazz Surratt first approached Jeff Schoettmer about moving from quarterback to defense. Initially, Surratt wanted to play safety, said Schoettmer, the former North Carolina linebacker who is now in his second season as a defensive graduate assistant.
