Keeping QB Sam Howell out of harm’s way is among the priorities for UNC. Protecting himself has to be Howell’s mindset as well, his coach said. It has been a process for Howell, the freshman who has dazzled at times with his play-making abilities and his knack for orchestrating comebacks. Howell also has left himself exposed in certain situations.
