Fitting Finale: The Last Night in Carmichael

After shaking hands with Dean Smith at mid-court, NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano asked Smith for the game ball. Smith looked puzzled but handed it to Valvano who proceeded to drive down the court and make a lay-up in front of the Carolina bench. He might not have won the final game in Carmichael, but he wanted get the final basket.
