When North Carolina faced Michigan State on April 2, 2005, the Tar Heel sports world was very different. Roy Williams had never won a national championship. Carolina was a program that had not even played in the national championship game in twelve years. Michigan State had a more recent championship (2000) and a more recent Final Four (2001).
