In Mack Brown’s first season as North Carolina's head football coach in 1988, the Tar Heels stumbled to a 1-10 record. During that time, Brown recruited Parade All-American linebacker Tommy Thigpen. And while most college coaches were talking up Thigpen’s NFL potential during his recruitment, Brown stood out because he took a different approach.
