The 9-1-1 1948 Tar Heels - led by , , and - beat Texas by 27 and a week later beat Georgia in Athens. They walloped LSU, held Tennessee to a touchdown, creamed Maryland, Duke, and Wake Forest, tied William & Mary, and lost to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
