Tar Heel Firsts: UNC’s first All-Americans

Cartwright Carmichael was UNC’s first basketball All-American, helping win its first Southern Conference title in 1922. The next season, the Tar Heels finished 15-1, with Carmichael being named All-American. Carmichael Auditorium/Arena was named after his brother, Billy Carmichael, who was also a member of the basketball team and a UNC vice-president.
