North Carolina basketball coaching legend Dean Smith was 53 years ahead of NASCAR, which announced on Wednesday that the confederate flag would no longer be allowed to fly at its race tracks. It reminds me how far ahead of the game Smith was in so many ways. In 1967, Smith introduced the Tar Heels' first black scholarship athlete, Charlie Scott.
