UNC didn't get the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament during the 1970-71 season, but it cruised through four victories to capture the NIT, crushing Massachusetts by 41 points in Julius Erving's final college game, Providence by seven, Duke by six, and Georgia Tech in the finals by 18, led by NIT MVP Bill Chamberlain's 34 points and 10 rebounds.
