1976—A capacity crowd of 3,860 fills Liberty’s Memorial Gym to watch the 1976 U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team, coached by Dean Smith, run past the Eastern Basketball Association-champion Allentown Jets 122-103. Notre Dame All-American Adrian Dantley scores 22 points while North Carolina’s Tommy LaGarde adds 16 for the Olympians.
