UNC kicker's mechanics, process off kilter

Noggin issues are the main reasons why Connor Barth, a blond-maned, part-time surfer from Wilmington, is 3-for-11 on field goals this season. For one thing, his mechanics are slightly off, which is why he has been concentrating on the timing of his steps and why he has been working with Wooldridge to keep his head from popping up. He also has been talking to former Carolina kicker Dan Orner for help. For another thing, Barth said, he's simply thinking too much.
