Posted Oct 3, 2020
The Andy Griffith Show first aired on CBS on October 3, 1960. When the final half-hour episode — number 249 — ran eight years later, it was one of only three American television shows to end its primetime run at No. 1. People continue to watch reruns of Andy taking the moral high ground, and come to Mount Airy for a glimpse of Mayberry, that enduring symbol of small-town life.
