Michael Jordan’s NBA comeback was everyone’s top story on the morning of September 11, 2001. That changed at 8:46 a.m. eastern time, when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. In the aftermath, Jordan decided it wouldn’t be appropriate to announce his return to the NBA at a big news conference.
