It was nearing 11 p.m. on Oct. 11, the final night of the N.B.A.’s extended residence at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Fla., when I joined a small group of reporters outside the Los Angeles Lakers’ locker room. The Lakers had just defeated the Miami Heat to win another N.B.A. championship, but it was their first with LeBron James as the team’s centerpiece.
