COVID-19's Impact on Carolina Athletics' 2019-20 Financials

A first look at COVID-19’s initial impact on UNC’s athletic department indicates a $2.6 million deficit during the 2019-20 fiscal year, according to the school’s annual financial report to the NCAA. Operating expenses outpaced total revenue for the second consecutive year. In 2018-19, UNC’s athletic department suffered a deficit of nearly $3 million.
