Roy Williams, from Marion in the mountains of North Carolina, has a folksy charm and created his own vernacular. His favorite players were “tough nuts” and his wife was always “Wicked Wanda” and regular curse words were subbed out for flip, dadgum and even a “Hello, Pete!” Whip-smart and stubborn, there was a fierceness to how he built a winner.
