North Carolina linebacker Brian Simmons was a consensus All-America in 1997, second-team All-America in 1996, two-time first-team All-ACC in 1996 and 1997, and a two-time Butkus Award semifinalist (nation's top linebacker) in 1996 and 1997. Unassuming and quiet off the field, Simmons was a menace on it. He didn’t lack in any area of the game.
