Former UNC forward James Worthy was National Player of the Year in 1982, Final Four MOP, two-time All-American, named to the ACC 50th Anniversary team, Naismith Hall of Fame inductee, and his UNC jersey No. 52 is retired. Worthy helped lead the Tar Heels to consecutive appearances in the national championship game, defeating Georgetown in 1982.
