Remembering Roy Williams' deep roots in western North Carolina

Several readers have asked me to share my thoughts on the retirement of Roy Williams, a Western North Carolina native and longtime UNC basketball coach. I dusted off my 1976 Owen High annual on April 1 after the man who had signed my yearbook simply as “Coach Williams” stunned the sports world with the news he was hanging up his Air Jordans.
