Roy Williams courted for Lakers position
Posted Jun 15, 2005
Phil Jackson was their No. 1 choice, but the Los Angeles Lakers talked to several big-time coaches to see if they were interested in the job, including North Carolina's Roy Williams. "Absolutely," GM Mitch Kupchak said, when asked if they inquired into other coaching possibilities. "Roy Williams turned us down a third time, which I think is a Los Angeles Lakers' record," he said. "We were just calling to see if he was interested; we hadn't offered anything yet."
