In a way, Mike Krzyzewski has become what Dean Smith was, but “I don’t want to say it that way,” he said, “because nobody can be who he was.” He understands the differences. Smith’s legacy is clear beyond basketball, notably as a Civil Rights advocate in the South when it was uncomfortable for a white man of prominence to take the stands he did.
