‘Best seat in the house’


The Christmas present was part of the plan for the celebration of ’s senior season. The Rice family, including brothers Casey and Chad, would tailgate and then cheer from the stands while Chase played for the Tar Heels. All those plans changed on May 18, when Connie Rice called her son in Chapel Hill. Daniel Rice, after battling malignant melanoma for four years, had died at home in Fairview of a heart attack at age 57. (Asheville Citizen-Times)
