UNC to face McNeese State

Convinced that football would never match basketball's stature at North Carolina, Mack Brown fled UNC in 1997 to lord over a program in a state where football's wish is the populace's command. In the 11 years since Brown bolted Chapel Hill for Texas, football's maintained its usual place in UNC's sporting landscape as a pleasant diversion until basketball practice begins on Oct. 15. There are signs, however, that things are changing.
