No. 1 UNC trailed College of Charleston by seven at halftime and coach Hubert Davis found himself shedding his positive demeanor in the locker room. Davis told them they were playing soft, but if they responded, the game would change quickly. The Tar Heels accepted the challenge and reeled off 59 points in the second half of their 102-86 victory.
