For Scott Williams, basketball saved his life. More specifically, Dean Smith saved Scott Williams’ life. After his father took his mother’s life and then his own, Scott Williams just wanted to go home. For a young man seemingly living the dream of being a UNC Basketball player, shutting down was what he wanted to do. And Dean Smith would have none of it.
