UNC Basketball's defining rivalry of the early 1980s was with Terry Holland’s Virginia Cavaliers, led by the towering presence of 7’4” Ralph Sampson. The Tar Heels were just nine months removed from knocking off UVa in the 1981 Final Four behind a transcendent 39-point performance from Al Wood. Each team returned three starters from that game.
