In 1976, UNC had our Olympic Dream Team. Forty-seven years ago, Dean Smith coached the USA basketball team in Montreal to the Gold Medal. The '76 Olympic tryouts were held in Chapel Hill and Raleigh, and Smith was criticized when the U.S. team announced a roster that included UNC players Phil Ford, Walter Davis, Mitch Kupchak, and Tommy LaGarde.
