On a night that UNC struggled to find a rhythm on offense, running back Omarion Hampton gave Appalachian State a run for its money. Repeatedly. In the finest rushing game since Michael Carter and Javonte Williams departed for the NFL, Hampton ran for 234 yards and three touchdowns as No. 17 UNC held on for a 40–34 double-overtime victory.
