Former North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley played a key role in negotiating a $206-billion settlement with Big Tobacco in the 1990s as attorney general. So bridging the divide between UNC, his alma mater, and the NCAA over the eligibility of receiver Tez Walker seemed like an easy task. "It seemed to be a very sad situation that needed addressing."
