Dean Smith had recruited the nation’s top class in 1990. With the exception of Clifford Rozier, who transferred to Louisville, that class matured into a formidable group. Eric Montross anchored the post, Derrick Phelps from the perimeter. Brian Reese and Pat Sullivan were capable forwards. Kevin Salvadori added size. Donald Williams was a sharpshooter.
