Merletti Carries Flag To Honor Brother
Posted Nov 25, 2008
Many observers at last week's home football game vs. NC State may have wondered why North Carolina defensive back Matt Merletti was carrying an American flag as he led the team onto the field. Merletti did so as a tribute to his brother, Mike, who had just returned home from Iraq. A second lieutenant Airborne Ranger, Mike spent eight months in Iraq and flew that particular flag during several U.S. missions and flew it on Sept. 11, 2008.
