Back in August, if you had offered North Carolina fans eight victories and the first bowl berth for the Tar Heels since 2004 they no doubt would have jumped at the chance. But after the Tar Heels, in Butch Davis' second season, in early November had the Coastal Division's inside track to the ACC Championship game and a potential trip to Miami for the Orange Bowl, their spot in the Meineke Car Care Bowl has the bit of the air of a consolation prize.
