R.J. Davis hit the game-winning free throws with 13.6 seconds to play. He also scored 17 points. He is the only Tar Heel to score in double figures in all 12 games this season. Ian Jackson led the Tar Heels with 24 points, which were the second most by a UNC freshman in Madison Square Garden. Rashad McCants scored 25 vs. Kansas on 11/27/2002.
