Carolina used a stingy defense and a late, 15-0 run to stifle California, 79-53, on Wednesday in the Smith Center. The Tar Heels posted their best shooting first half of the season and limited the Golden Bears to 53 points, the fewest by an opponent this season. Ian Jackson led all scorers with 20 points, adding seven rebounds. Seth Trimble scored 12.
