One common question about North Carolina’s defense is how much input head coach Butch Davis has on a daily, operational-level basis. Davis’ expertise is on the defensive side of the ball, after all, and the assumption is he would obviously have some input into defensive philosophy and game planning. Just as offensive coordinator John Shoop indicated in his interview, Everett Withers feels empowered to do his job as defensive coordinator.
