For UNC basketball fans under age 55, the concept must seem alien: There was a time when Tar Heel fans wondered when, if ever, their team would beat N.C. State. The David Thompson years (1973-75) brought State an undefeated season, a national title and 33 consecutive victories against ACC opponents. Frustration doesn’t begin to describe this era.
