Washington Post closing sports department amid layoffs

Following weeks of speculation, the Washington Post announced mass layoffs Wednesday, including the shuttering of its sports department in its current iteration. The Washington Post sports desk was, for much of the last 100 years, the apex of the business. Sports journalists were already excoriating the Post and owner Jeff Bezos before the ax fell.
