When Every Second Counts: This UNC Device is Saving Lives

A breakthrough from UNC is helping frontline teams fight America’s drug crisis. Chemist Mike Ramsey’s research led to the MX908, a handheld mass spectrometer, that can detect fentanyl and other deadly substances in under 60 seconds. Developed by 908 Devices, a UNC spinout, the tool is now used by police, firefighters and even Romanian customs. (UNC.edu)
