With 2:49 to play Friday, the Etiwanda High School boys basketball team found itself tied with USA Today's top-ranked team in the nation before a 9-0 run by undefeated Mater Dei advanced the defending state champions to the CIF finals with a 70-60 victory.
Travis and David Wear scored 14 of their 27 combined points during a stretch that bridged the second and third quarters. "We play a national schedule," Travis Wear said. "So, I can't speak for them but I know we were ready for crunch time."
