USC slams UNC’s early momentum, takes Super Regional opener

One hanging slider from one of the best relievers in the country erased UNC's lead and turned the momentum. Anticipating the slider, Walker McDuffie’s best pitch, Southern Cal’s Dean Carpenter lofted it over the left-field wall for a sixth-inning grand slam to help erase a three-run deficit. The Trojans were in control from there, taking a 9-5 victory Friday.
