UNC's first sporting event took place in spring 1884 on a baseball diamond against Bingham Military School. We don’t know the date or the result, but it was a Great Day to be a Tar Heel. Baseball has a rich history in Chapel Hill. In celebration of America250, let’s look at some surprising ties between the nation’s pastime and its first public university.
