North Carolina Quarterback Competition Enters Training Camp

Two weeks before training camp, UNC finds itself in a familiar position at quarterback — sort of. Following last year’s quarterback carousel of Gio Lopez, Max Johnson, and Au'Tori Newkirk, the Tar Heels enter 2026 with a revamped quarterback group led by transfers Billy Edwards Jr. and Miles O’Neill, alongside Newkirk and freshman Travis Burgess.
